I'm putting together a new system with an e6600 Core 2 Duo CPU for gaming. I am trying to pick out the RAM for the system, but it seems to have gotten a lot more varied than the last time I put a system together. I don't plan to overclock, so performance and reliability are my two biggest concerns.
I plan on using DDR2 667, but it looks like there are two kinds: PC2-5300 and PC2-5400. What's the difference?
I know that the lower the CAS latency nuymber the better (right?). Now I also see timings that are different. For instance, OCZ has:
PC2-5400 with a CAS of 4 and a timing of 4-4-4-12
or
PC2-5400 with a CAS of 5 and a timing of 5-5-5-15
Is it better to have lower or higher timing numbers? Is any of this dependant on the motherboard I get?
Also, any recommendations on memory would be greatly appreciated!
