What are the advantages of the gpu!

I decided just recently that I wanted to build a Pc I have all my parts now I'm thinking do I need a gpu. what does it help with other then gaming

most intel cpu's and amd apu's have a built in gpu already which is sufficient for office work, watching videos and minimalistic gaming. if you intend to play more demanding games you're gonna need a separate graphics card

What do you want to do with the computer?

I used this machine here for a couple of months as a School/Home/Internet computer just fine, using the iGPU in my processor before I added a discrete GPU. If you do no gaming or only light gaming a GPU may be unnecessary.
