What are the advantages of using Cat6 or cat5e plenum cables?

Can anybody tell me the exact differences between cat5e and cat6 plenum cables? I just want to know how superior they are from normal Ethernet cables because i want to install a network in my commercial premises. Please suggest something if any body know about it... Any help would really be appreciated...

Plenum cable is required in commercial building because of safety concerns related to fire spread and toxic material given off when cables burn.

Both cat5e and cat6 can run 1g to the 100m limit. If you need to run 10g to the 100m limit you need cat6a or cat7.

The key confusion on cat6 is partially intentional by the cable sellers trying to make more money. Very technically you can run more bandwidth though a cat6 cable. This means they are faster BUT you will find no equipment on the market that can use the ability. If there were say a 3g or 4g interface on a PC then cat6 would be better but the industry went straight to 10g which only works on cat6 at very short distance. So when you have 1g interface you use cat5e when you have 10g interfaces you use cat6a or cat7. Cat6 you only use if you can get it cheaper than cat5e.

Cat6 cable has been a dead product since it was invented. When the gig standard was being developed you had 2 competing designs. The cable vendors wanted to use a 2 pair solution like 100m uses. To run 1g over 2pair you need better cable. Since this meant companies had to replace all their cat5e cable with cat6 they of course liked it. The nic manufactures although it costs more money decided they would sell more product if they could make 1g work over cat5e so they went with a design that uses 4 pair of wires. The nic manufacture won but you can still find some cisco devices that support the 2 pair standard. This is the difference between 1000-t and 1000-tx

Well first of all using any sort of plenum cable will allow you extra safety, means that plenum cable do not catch fire and can be used in plenum areas, where other cables cant be used and about Cat5e & Cat6 well Cat5e is mainly used in home networking installations and Cat6 mostly for office installations. Cat6 has a bit better speed and has higher frequency rate than the Cat5e.

What a pile of crap. This appears to be a addvertisement for a web site. DO NOT USE THIS SITE. If this guy has this little clue then you do not want to even consider a site he recommends.

Again another person related to the cable industry trying to confuse people into buying better cable than they need. The cable has no ability to change the speed of the signal. The signal is generated by the ports.

Cat6 cable is not used more in office that in home. Cat6 cable is use in both many time just because it is actually cheaper due to supply and demand. Many offices have gone to cat6a instead since that cable has also come down in cost.

CAT6 cable is a SCAM. If you only need 1g you buy the cheapest cable either cat5e or cat6. If you are one of the guys who think spending money now saves in the future then you can go cat6a. Even cat7 is not worth the extra expense if you do not need the shielding.

Cat6 cable is mostly for sheep who blindly believe marketing and think if the number is bigger it must be better.

No you are wrong my friend Cat6 Cable has minor improvements than Cat5e it has a lot more less cross talk due to which the possibilty of an error arising in a big network of cables is very less, that's why it is preferred in offices and Cat5e is perfect for home installations cause it is just performs a little bit lower than the Cat6 but it's prices is a lot less. and plz use good language don't abuse me like that okay, use good language.

I forget the exact amount, but CAT6 has over 10x the signal strength in the frequency used by 1gb Ethernet, at 100m. CAT5E and CAT6 have the same tech spec of 1gb at 100m, but CAT6 does it better with less likely to have issues for nearly the same price.

If you got CAT6a, or any other shielded cable tech, you need to make sure it's properly grounded at every point, otherwise it will be worse than unshielded cables.

You are quoting a lot of garbage tech that is designed only to confuse.

Explain EXACTLY how it is faster when the port only clocks the data into the line at 1g and the receiving port only receives the data at 1g.

Please show how you can magically get more speed in the cable as you claim.

Like normal when challenged on this topic cable vendors start to spout the magic less cross talk less interference etc etc. Show me ANY independent study that is not from a cable manufacture that show cross talk is a problem and that it is more of a problem on cat5e than cat6. Show how many errors per million bit on average you get and what impact that has on the throughput. Even the ones from the cable companies show you can barely measure this and it provides no real world return on investment.

We monitor every port in a huge network. We have more than 100,000 active devices. The number of errors on these ports other than when users turn off their machines is almost zero. This is is many many buildings worldwide. The vast majority of the cable in the older buildings is cat5e.

But I suppose your cable company sells ethernet cable that will survive a nuclear strike so I should buy that too just in case.
