At the moment I have the hyper X cloud headset but I'm looking for a pair of headphones to use instead as I have heard that they are much better than any gaming headset. My budget is around £150-£200 and that's about it. I will be getting a desktop mic soon so as i will not need an inbuilt mic I feel like headphones are the way to go. I have heard that the ATH-M50x's, M70x's and AD700x's are amazing but I'm not very good when it comes to audio I believe the AD700x's look great but I came here to clarify and see if there's any better headphones.

if you want something that can be competitive but still has a whole lot of fun factor... then sure the dt990 would be nice if you get an amplifier for them. for open cans they have good bass and have good treble response. this is called a v-shaped signature which is generally classified as "Fun" sounding by most.

likewise, if you like heavier bass the dt770 is great but you may lose a bit of advantage due to more bass in fps games. its more than possible to do well with them though - having bass light headphones just gives you a slight advantage is all and skill can make up for that easily.

i personally own an m50 myself but use it more for music. i do like it (its not a bad headphone) but soundstage is very small so i did not...
most gaming headsets are not so great - the exception would be headphones made by actual headphone companies. the original hxc is basically a takstar pro 80 which is not terrible for being a budget headphone at all. its not top rated but not bad at all.

m50 has small soundstage so i would not recommend it. get the dt770 instead if you want bassy and closed cans. its like the m50 but superior in all ways.

ad700x is perfectly fine when it comes to sound. for anyone to say otherwise is just complaining because it does not fit what their ideal sound signature is. the ad700x is treble and mid focused with fairly light bass response. they have good detail and a huge soundstage which makes them and the ad500x a top choice for competitive gaming. in fact, bass light headphones are superior for fps gaming as you can better hear footsteps and other subtle sounds (bass covers them over somewhat). sure, bass light may not be the most engrossing or entertaining signature (v-shaped high treble and high bass typically is called the most fun to listen to) but it certainly has its purpose.

what would be best for you depends on your preferences for audio. i would start by telling us exactly what you desire your headphone to sound like and any other requirements you have.

Thanks for your answer man it's really helped but See there's the issue I'm not very good when it comes to audio. At the moment I have the hyper X cloud gaming headset and it's ok but I'm looking for something that sounds just better. I play games like dark souls and some fps's such as overwatch and battlefield 1 when they come out. The main game is dark souls which is quite atmospheric but I'm really not sure what kind of sound is best for this. I hope this has helped and also I look at the and do you think that the dt990s are worth it if these are good for the type of games I play.

if you prefer a more neutral sound.. the dt880, or hd518/558/598 might be more your cup of tea.

basically you need to think about how you want your cans to sound:

neutral (flat)
treble+mid focused (bass light)
mid and bass focused (bassy or bass cannon)
treble+bass focused (v shaped)
