What are the best RAM?

Im about to buy some new parts for my PC and the one I have been having trouble searching for is some RAM sticks. Im thinking of buying up to 20gb of RAM (2 x 8gb and 1 x4 GB). Right now Im getting the Intel core i5-6600k and a GIGABYTE GA-B250M-DS3H LGA1151 Intel Micro ATX DDR4 Motherboard. My budget it $500 and the motherboard and CPU is included in this budget.

don´t buy an old cpu unless you can get it for a really good price .
get new i3 8100 instead combined with asrock Z370 pro 4 motherboard
(or any other cheap Z370 motherboard for that matter).

and don´t combine memory modules like that: it will work but it is not the best setup :
ideally what you should aim for with i3 8100 is 2x8gb "as fast as possible" memory
(3000MHz cl16/cl15 will suffice)

Now how good is this Intel i3 8100?

as good as skylake/kaby lake (not overclocked) i5 processors and you can have it for like 100-120 dollars
plus you will have the best current mainstream chipset
and multiple upgrade options (i5 8600K / i7 8700K) as a bonus .

I'm upgrading from my old CPU the FX-8350. You think the i3 8100 is an upgrade from that? (sorry I should have mentioned my old system before)

for gaming alone it will be an upgrade (if you have powerful enough graphics card of course) .
but if you do some video editing etc. you should consider at least i5 8400 or amd ryzen 1600 .
