Question What are the downsides for overkill PSU?

I have read alot but can’t find a satisfying answer.

I need a new PSU and a 550 will do, 650 to be futureproof and oc. But now I see a 750 for cheap.

My system now:

P6t se
Xeon x5670
3x 4gb ddr3
Gtx 970
Ssd

I will be building a new rig somewhere this year or next. The PSU I buy needs to go on a 6-10 year ride. Just like the old one.

Im looking specific for RMxxxX, seasonic focus gold/plat plus, evga g3. Those are quality good ones.

For example:

Rm650x €94 vs rm750x €75

I also found a “secondhand” seasonic focus plus plat 650 for €60

Help me out with the question.
What are the downsides for overkill PSU?
Ik know it only pulls what it needs from the wall

The primary downside from an oversized power supply is cost. The technical downside is lower electrical efficiency. If you look at the graphs on this Tom's buying guide page, you can see that at low power output levels the efficiency is not as good. For a single PC, in a home environment, that may mean a few cents per month.

+100w is not so OVER. If u throw it 2x the needed power, OK. Don't overthinking it.
