I have been supplied with a Technicolor TG784 router..

We have a landline with an ADSL internet service. There are two cables connecting the router to the telephone line socket and one cable from the router to the telephone base for the land line. I would attach a photo of the sockets but do not know how to. The grey socket at the extreme left hand end of the back of the router is plugged into the telephone socket, the next cable goes from a green socket to the telphone base and the next cable, also from a green socket, is hard wired into the telephone socket. If I turn the router off the landline does not work .This is imortant as we have a burglar alarm which needs the landline to communicate with its control room and the house is in an area with electrical storms which can fry IT equipment quite easily! Thus when not there we want to keep the landline operating but disconnect all IT equipment along with the telephone base.

Previously we had an ADSL splitter connected to the telephone line socket by one cable and the router we then used and telephone base were each separately plugged into that splitter- so we could run either or both. When we were away we unplugged that splitter disconnecting both from the telephone wire socket but the alarm still connected with its control room.

Is it necesary to have the current cabling with thsi router or can we use and ADSL splitter as before? Anny suggestions very welcome. Many thanks.

Craib.
