What are the little metallic particles next to GPU

Hey there,

I was reading something about GPU, and was puzzled by what are the metallic stuff next to GPU. Here is the picture of a GPU:

If thermal paste got trapped in between those metallic particles, will it cause any harm to the GPU? Can we use alcohol to clean those metallic thing?

No,Those are not thermal paste .The graphics chip is soldered to the board(thats why you see that metalic stuff).It does not cause any harm to GPU.Also it cant be cleaned

Oh, those are soldering, not part of the GPU circuit. I thought if thermal paste got trapped in between the soldering, it will cause short circuit, and hence damage the system.

Also, can we wipe it with alcohol if it is dirty (say some thermal paste stick onto some of those metallic thing)? Will wiping with alcohol cause any problem?

Yes, you can clean that area with alcohol as alcohol quickly evapourates.Dont use water thought 😛
