What Are the Odds a New PSU will Destroy Computer Parts?

Solution
:) Bad things do happen. I will bet satisfied customers for Corsair AX PSU's far outnumber dissatisfied ones.

Also we do not know the electrical systems the guy had. We do not know if he had connected all connectors correct. We do not know if he caused the motherboard to short by improperly using the groundings. We do not know if he used a plug point which had no grounding or short circuit protection.

The scenario he describes is highly unlikely in normal usage scenario for even a cheap power supply.

So I wouldn't worry about it. get a decent power supply and use it. I am sure it will not blow up if you are a bit careful. Even if you are not careful, it shouldn't blow up :)
Hmm. Seems my question isn't clear. I'll try again. A person doesn't have a computer. He orders all the parts brand new and builds it. What are the chances the PSU (I guess defective PSU) will destroy computer hardware, MOBO, CPU, or anything when he first power on the PSU for the very first time?

Oh do you mean when you first install it? It's not a massive chance but it's not a tiny chance either.

Yeah because the warranty only covers the PSU, not the PC component that the PSU destroyed. So you can order $2,000 dollars worth of hardware and if the PSU destroys it all, PSU company will not cover the components it destroyed unless it specified it would do so in case of a defective PSU.

No more so than ordering a prebuilt machine and having it explode when you first plug it in after taking it out of the box. Generally this would be something like shipping damages and can happen to nearly all equipment, even if you picked it up at a store.

It's not something that you would be concerned over any other equipment purchase. Just like any purchase whether electronics or not, sometimes you can get a dud and it sucks, but that's what warranties are for.

Chance is almost nil if you get a decent PSU. They have in built protection circuits, that prevents any harm to the computer components.

Twice I had a situation while building systems for friends where the new PSU is lemon(One CM, one Corsair), but in both cases nothing else is hurt.

That's the sad reality of it but everything has chance on it nowadays? You could step outside and fall over a rock or something but you don't worry about that every day do you? It's human nature to worry mate. It'll be fine :)

This is a comment made by a Corsair AX860 PSU from Newegg:
1 out of 5 eggsBUYER BEWARE

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I bought this power supply for a really high components. Spent over $2800 in parts. Hooked up every thing turn on the computer and blow the components. The whole room had smoke. Called corsair and did a damage claim. The guy i spoke to on the phone said it would only take 3 day turn around but after 2 weeks they just got back to me saying that after their testing they found out it was a damaged power supply.
They only want to give me very little money for all the damaged parts. They said it was not replacement value but only depreciation value. I explained to them they are all brand new parts. They said if you buy a brand new car as soon as you drive off the lot you cant sell it for that price. I couldn't believe they would say something like that after their unit damaged my brand new parts. I am still dealing with the damage claim i will update my review after.

Cons: BUYER BEWARE

Other Thoughts: BUYER BEWARE

I'm not worried. I'd like to know the chances. There is a purpose why statistics exist. It's not about worrying. It's about knowing facts. Is English your first language bro?

Yep, it happens. How many AX860's have been sold and how many were damaged, possibly by users, that caused equipment to be damaged?

Again, this is not something you should be concerned about as it can happen to any equipment.

Edit: Turns out OP is just a troll trying to stir up reactions over nothing.

Yes it is. Sorry that I put a "?" I meant to put a "." haha

I don't know why they've changed the AX logo to reddish color. I preferred the gold colored like the one I have now. I think I'm going to RMA my AX850 because I suspect it is the cause why my computer is not turning on. My motherboard transistors are fine. It takes a day for my computer to turn on when there is power outage. At first it took it only like a few seconds by holding the power button or just waiting for the "bad electricity" to fully discharge.

Hopefully they send me a AX860 as replacement for my AX850 and not some lessor HX series.
