I'm currently having issues with my Ryzen 5800X3D on an ASUS PRIME B450M-A II motherboard.
I have so far looked at the compatibility of both and updated all new drivers and bios. when i try to use the new CPU, my pc shows no display but the pc turns on and the fans are on full blast. I'm worried the CPU is busted or i just need a better mb to use the CPU. After i updated bios i could tell my pc has been acting slower and frame drop in some games when using my old 5700G CPU.

I just need to know if I'm doing anything wrong or i need to be doing something different. And if switching straight to am5 would be a better deal.

Do you have a graphics card? Because 5800X3D doesn't have integrated graphics like the 5700g (g for graphics) did. Motherboard video ports won't work without igpu so need a dedicated graphics card installed in the pcie slot and use those video ports.

As for cpu fans ramping up, what cooler are you using? Did you redo thermal paste? And recheck cooler for proper mounting.

I have a 4070 super installed and yes i redone the thermal paste every time i swapped them and i have double checked the mounting every time as well.

What BIOS version is currently running on the motherboard (looks like the most recent should be 44xx)?

Did you reset the CMOS when switching to the new CPU?

If the BIOS is up to date and you've reset the CMOS it sounds like your new CPU isn't working.

Just a note that motherboard isn't very good power delivery wise and might have issues running the 5800X3D under load.

Current bois for the mb is 4410 and that's running rn, and yes I've been resetting the CMOS (if that means taking the battery out for 5 mins or so), i got the mb as a budget choice at the time. Would it be best to get a better mb and re do bios or just return the cp?

How long did you leave it before powering down or does it turn off itself? Motherboard would go through memory training with a new cpu, that could take a few minutes.
I think the first time I tried turning it on it turned off after 1 min but then the other times it stayed on longer then I turned it off and put the old cpu back in. Would that process be done with the screen off and only the fans going?

Should have done it by now. Couldn't find the thread i was involved in about a couple months ago where this guy upgraded Amd cpu and mod that suggested to let it memory train did the trick. It would power on, restart, doing this a couple of times and then it was ok. Not sure if he had no display while it was doing this.

Try remove ram completely and clear cmos via clr pins, leave battery in. Then try install ram back and power on, leave it go for 5mins. If it don't work afterwards then yeah probably look at a different motherboard.

Ok I'll try that but if the CPU was damaged by chance would the pc not turn on at all or would it power on but not boot?

Try rma cpu first if that's easier. Fingers crossed replacement works. If not then either get a shop to check your motherboard out or replace that too for a nice B550 or even X570. Msi Tomahawk, Gigabyte AX or another Asus - Tuf Gaming or Prime.

I've done some shenanigans and i got my pc to boot but with one of my ram sticks, so......

I guess that was the problem either faulty ram or it just doesn't like my ram, idk I can put a pc together but troubleshooting isn't my strong suit.
