I believe HDMI is good for 1080p but there are better options for higher res and refresh rates.

Is the dual link DVI better or displayport?

Dual-Link DVI is good only up to 1080p 144 Hz or 1440p 60 Hz.

DisplayPort is normally used for 1440p 144 Hz. HDMI can also be used if the monitor supports HDMI 2.0 (not all 1440p 144 Hz monitors support this).

The monitor will come with a cable (or different cables) that is capable of running it at max res and hz. I don't think I've even seen a modern 1440p/144 monitor that doesn't come with a dp cable. Dvi is being phased out.
