What cables do I need to power my new GTX 1070ti?

Hi I recently purchased a GTX 1070ti and was having trouble connecting it to the power supply. My GPU only has an 8 pin slot. My PSU ( Cx600m) has the 6+2 slot but I no longer have that cable. Will I just need to go purchase a 6+2 PCI and then be good? I know it’s simple, I’m just trying to make sure I know what Cable to purchase.

Not "A" 6+2 pin, "the" 6+2 pin for a CX600M. Modular cables are not interchangeable, as only the pin 'in' to hardware is standardized. The pin 'out' on the PSU side of things is not standardized and you may well end up sending 12V down a ground line.

That being said, the CX600M isn't a great PSU to begin with, so I would suggest replacing the PSU itself, opposed to sourcing a replacement cable.

Best to buy a proper 6+ 2 cable for your psu.
Since your psu has sufficient amperage to support a 6+2 cable, you may be forced to use a adapter like a molex to 8 pin pcie adapter.

Or, go ahead and buy a new psu like a Seasonic focus 650w. And... make sure you save the extra cables this time.

Cpu: Ryzen 5 2600x
GPU: GTX 1070ti
RAM: T-Force Delta 2x8 (16GB)
Motherboard- MSI B450 Tomohawk

Would you recommend just upgrading the PSU (It’s about 5 years old anyways) and just using the cables from that? If so which one under $100 preferably?

If that CX600M is ~5 years old, I'd definitely suggest replacing it. Even Corsair were only confident enough in it to warrant for 3 years.... and even then, they do state that it's not for "gaming" type setups.

For <$100 right now, the best pricing is found in an EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W.

That's after a $20 mail-in rebate.
If you're looking for just a price & done (ie no rebates), then ~$80ish is what you're looking at for a quality unit.

My preference would be the 650W G2 or Focus+ Gold 650W.


A quality 550W should be sufficient too, but given pricing (without rebates), you'd save maybe $5-$10, so the 650W variants are a solid choice IMO.
