What can an i5 4670k OC to?

When I get my i5 4670k (will OC once i get a cooler) I want to OC it to 4.5ghz and thats what I really want. No more. so 4.5ghz and what is a safe voltage for that? And can the CPU even go up to 4.5? if not, whats the max? and with an MSI Z87 GD65 motherboard with its Awesome bios, can i Just OC it easily using the bios and just setting the clock?

i dont really think the 4670k can do 4.5ghz. the 3570k can definitely but haswell runs hotter than ivy bridge so you may hit a thermal ceiling before you hit 4.5ghz. stil something like 4.2ghz is still blazingly fast. 4.5ghz is a 1.1ghz OC you know!

is 1.1ghz OC a lot though? is it too much? How about an OC to 4.4?

There really is no way to know what your chip will OC to before testing it yourself :-/ I have a friend who got his 4670 up to 4.6, but another who couldn't get his past 4.1. You can probably guarantee getting over 4ghz, but beyond that is luck of the draw. That being said, an i5 running at 4ghz is a monster performer, especially with the Haswell enhancements. No matter what your ceiling ends up being, that is a kick ass processor I'm not sure what the max safe vcore is, and I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't push it over 1.4v good luck!

Not all of these processors are the same, there are so many minute differences that one person's i5 4670 might overclock WAY better than another's... it really is luck of the draw

Oh ok but using the MSI Z87 GD65's amazing bios where you can just put in your clock, can i put in 4.5 and could it just possibly 4.4 even if i put in 4.5? Or is OCing much harder than just putting in a number...

Yeah there are a bunch more settings than that. I don't recommend using a bios's auto overclock settings either, they usually go too high on the voltages. I would suggest reading up on overclocking before attempting it. A small overclock of 4.0 or so would probably be ok for just typing in the multiplier, but getting up to 4.3-4.5 you will most likely need to tweak the settings quite a bit (unless you win the chip lottery), and that tends to need some level of understanding.

No problem, good luck! There are some great guides out there to learn the steps of a stable overclock. Search around here on Tom's or on Google and read a bunch, that is how I learned.
