On top of having a better heatsink, I have discovered that ambient temperature in the room can have a pretty big effect on your cpu temps.

I turned off the heat in my apartment for the day and cracked the window and my temps were at least 10c lower.

Can't wait for summer to come, the AC will do nicely for ambient temps :)

I don't mean to come across this abrasive, but are you kidding? 43c on a P4 630? Life could be alot worse.

My opty hangs out in the 50's, low 60 if I turn down the fan and it's fine. My old northwood would get up into the 50's as well.

Honestly, 43c isn't bad at all. If you are concerned it is heating your room up too much then I can see your point.

A better heatsink is about all you can do, aside from going to water, or getting a vantec tornado and 60dba lol.

You could always switch to liquid cooling.I have my dual core athlon at 2.6 and it runs around 45-48 celcius under load.Goodluck.

... i use speedfan to monitor my temps and avg around 45C for the cpu temperature (ranges from about 39C to 53C).. anything i can do or add to lower the temp more?...
Sounds like the cooler is not mounted properly (not pressing hard enough against the CPU, or too much thermal goop) and/or you don't have good airflow inside the case. When you say 39-53C, what is the temp at idle (doing nothing in Windows, no screen saver running)? What is the temp under load (e.g. running PRIME95 in stress-test mode)? What is the temp inside the case (sometimes called SYS or system temp)?

You sound like the Comcast commercial with the Slowskis who get DSL because their Comcast cable connection was too fast. :?:

Do you really believe a Core 2 Duo, 2 Gigs of ram, a raptor hdd, and an 8800GTX will improve dial up internet surfing, typing on Word Pad, or my gaming enjoyment of Doom, Star Wars Tie Fighter, Dark Forces, or Star Craft? This is a purpose-built rig.

When you say undervolt do youalso mean lower the clock speed? Because i finished building my current PC about 2 months ago and out od nowhere i have been getting extremely high temeratures. I used to get 9 celsius idle now i get 20 idle. I used to get 45 in games and now i'm getting 50-65 in games. Is this okay for a AMD FX-4170?

good job bringing back a 6 year old thread, btw as long as you have a balance of air movment, you can have 5 low RPM 120mm intake fans and on 250mm high RPM exhaust fan and it would work fine as long as you place the fans with natural air movement, intakes on the bottom, exhaust at the top
