So I found a 32gb SSD being sold for $5 and I am debating on whether I should buy it or not. I don't like to have things lying around if they aren't used. I have space for a drive in my probook laptop with Windows 7 Pro 32bit which has a 320gb HDD.

So should I buy this SSD?
What can I do with 32gb of space that can be of benefit? Install the operating system on it?

Depends on the physical form of the device and whether your probook can use it.

32gb, 2.5 inch ssd would be pretty useless for you, even to use as an external drive.

If however it is a mSata device, and your probook has a slot for mSata, it would be a great addition. You can install in in the laptop and install your OS on it which should make your bootup faster, and help windows be a little faster.

I would honestly recommend only installing your OS on it. It will speed up boot time exponentially by itself. On my laptop I have a 128GB SSD with a 1TB HDD, and I have my OS and my main games on the SSD, they run beautifully. Other than that, 32GB isn't useful for much.

It's a 2.5" SSD, why would it be useless? I can remove the CD/DVD Drive and use a tray to insert the SSD. I've read about using it as a cache device, but I'm not sure what that means and what it does or what kind of benefits it gives.

Well, most games now are approximately 10GB if you have some DLC's. Add that on-top of your 5GB for windows, with 2 games and an OS your SSD is already full. It's useful if you're just wanting an OS on there, but I wouldn't be putting anything else on there, nor would I sacrifice a disk drive unless you have a good USB disk drive, then I might think about it.

For $5 why are you even debating ??
It'll just about manage a windows install - as you say though using as a cache drive to support thr platter drive in ypur laptop can bring a good speed boost with most used apps.

Hey guys! So that SSD got sold, but I found another ssd. Visiontech 900500 Racer series 240gb SSD for $80 with the condition being new. Is this a good or bad deal? I don't see many reviews regarding Visiontech SSDs.

Haha, the 32gb $5 is no longer. Available. The 240gb SSD is $80.

240Gb is about perfect for a boot drive, using the hdd mainly for storage of large files like photos, and other media. The 32Gb best use is a hybrid setup using the SSD as temp cache, so anything once loaded into Windows working memory is run from the SSD, not the hdd. You'd need to use Intel fast storage tech to make that happen.
