I have been googling around and I don't seem to fully understand what I can do with a server people always say you can stream movies/music and stuff off them, But how.I also heard you could hook up security cameras to them. I wouldn't mind that considering my house has been broken into multiple times I also wouldn't mind building a server for hosting Minecraft and RSPS's for my friends. So can someone help me and tell me what exactly I could do with a server?

Thanks! 😀 😀

You are correct, you can do all of what you mentioned. Be sure to learn all you can about servers, they can be a pain for a novice, i did okay but it was difficult for me to keep up with. I had remote connection issues, if your are building from scratch it can get costly to have a usable server. Home servers are prime targets for Hackers, make sure you have good security to protect it. Also thieves steal servers if they came carry it. there goes any recordings on it. Network attached Storage(NAS) works similar to servers in streaming and file sharing, and with back up software data can be automatically transferred. Also they can be hidden easier than severs and don't require displays, keyboards and a mouse. I had a home server last year...

I had a home server last year made from a spare computer i had lying around and I really liked it until I got hacked and lost all my user passwords. The only way to fix it that i could find was to start over at the cost of losing my data. I ended up pulling the hard drives and put them in external HDD enclosures. One day i will justify getting a NAS. Not trying to talk you out of it but wanted you to know my experience.
