Question What can I do with ddr3 ram

I'm planning to buy a ryzen with DDR4, and I have 18 Gb of DDR3 on my present PC.

I do not want to just throw that memory away. There is any use for them on the new system?

I was thinking to buy a PCIE card to make a ramdrive for swap file, to alleviate SSD wear, and accelerate compression of large files, but it looks like all those cards are no more on sale, or the remaining ones are server hardware, too expensive to make sense.

No, you can't use that DDR3 on a new Ryzen system.
Sell it.

And the uses you were thinking of...way too much maintenance for little or no gain.

Just sell the ram. Its unusable in any modern system

Ebay. There's still plenty of ppl using ddr3 looking for a decent upgrade in size/speed but not having the budget for a total platform revamp. On the plus side, that's overall less money spent on your new platform.
