hi guys i have a gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 and currently have an i7 920 and a gtx 580 in it right now and looking to upgrade it, my question is whats the smartest cpu to buy for it and would it be better to put another gtx 580 in it (my friend has a spare) or do i just upgrade to something like a gtx 700 to 900 series, also if i put a higher end card in straight away will it bottleneck with my i7 920, thanks if anyone can reply!

Solution
Overclocking with stock cooler is risky as is not enough even for stock frequency,a cheap good aircooler like hyper 212v is enough for 3,7-3,8
Also go straight with the gtx 1060 its a little more expensive than the 960 but its has twice of its performance.

Ηi,its not really worth to add another gtx 580 due to low vram(1,5gb)which will hold on any modern game.Check gtx 970-1060-1070.Your cpu is good(i have the same on my system)but its low clocks may give some bottleneck which is solved if you overclock to 3,7ghz.

Thank you so much, i just have a question about overclocking, what does it actually do, are there any bad effects it has on it or does it just raise the speed, also will my 8gb of ram effect anything?

If you are following a good guide(they are tons about the i7 920 on the internet) there's not really any risk. The overclock raises core frequency,i have my own 920 overclocked from 2.66 to 4ghz without any really hard work.If you are willing to overclock you must have a good -with enough headroom- psu,a good motherboard which allows overclock(your's is ok) and proper cpu and case cooling.

will do thank you so much for your help, i'll order a hyper 212v now and then a 1060, this is gonna make arma 3 look amazing compared to what it is now, and ill be able to play next gen games, thank you very very much xD

p.s
will i have to take my mobo out to install a fan, because if i have to i might just try overclocking with the stock one or get someone to do it for me!
