Hey everyone, i might consider the i5-4690K for gaming as an upgrade after christmas instead of the 4790k but i need to know what is the highest gpu it can handle without bottlenecking? Would it handle 980ti in sli for an example?

Solution
I cannot think of one game that the 4690k cannot handle with the best GPUs on the market. The only time a 4790k will come in handy over the 4690k (when gaming) is if you decide to stream/record your game play (aka, real time rendering while gaming).

I use the 4790k (4.7ghz) to game and record, but I also do other things that require the additional threads. The 4690k would be great for you if you plan on gaming only (it will still handle everything else just fine, it is a top tier CPU).

I see you currently have a 8370, if that is currently bottlenecking you, the 4690k will easily take care of that.

For gaming, a i5-4670K with an overclock can handle any gaming graphics card configuration just as well as a 4790K.
Yes, GTX980ti sli.
If you are considering such a strong graphics build, then consider the skylake i5-6600k or even i7-6700k.
In time, those processors might be upgradeable to stronger kaby lake .
