I built a pc for my 2nd son this Christmas, but took the old Gigabyte GTX650 card from the eldest as he got a 4G GByte GTX960 WF 2XCooler OC which I got at a quite a good price at the time.

August 2016 I will get a new card to replace the GTX650, and my base case is to get exactly the same. But not sure if it the best value?

The GTX970 is now very close in price (in the UK) to the GTX960, possibly as the 1070 now is released. Will we see a price drop on the GTX 960 next week?

or should I get temporarily a 950/750Ti and wait a bit?

CPU is a i5 6500
CMASTER HYPER 212 EVO Cooler
2x4G CorVENG LPX DDR4-2400 RED
630W TTAKE/SPS-630MPCBEU PSU
Asus Z170-P Intel Motherboard
(Gigabyte GTX650)

I have a preference to Nvidia, just to keep everything the same.

An argument to get another 960 is that I can possibly SLI them in future, but it is not going to happen very soon...I have 3rd son...

Oh and I will take the 650 into my old Linux Dell to see if it works. (or...possibly build a new low budget machine)

Games played are Overwatch and GTA V (when it works), and possibly will get Just Cause 3 to test the graphics out.

BUDGET for card about £200.

After a lot of umming and arring I ended up ordering an EVGA GTX970 FTW+ 1216/1376, which I think is the fastest EVGA card from Scan. As all off them appear to be at the same sals price £195-199 (as stock lasts), I bought the fastest I could find, except the marginally faster ZOTAC card which reviews scared me a bit, and EVGA apparently have better UK support. All previous cards I have would be Gigabyte, and I have had no issues, but they appear to have gone of the sales first, maybe indicating gigabyte being the most popular brand in the UK? Both Overclockers and Scan seem to go down in stock on the 970, which makes me feel that at there are others than me happy to stay with the 970.

The GTX960 I originally had in mind for future...
Hi Gizzah

At that price i think the GTX 950 is very competitive. Its basically a cut-down version of a 960 and if you OC it can easily come close to 960 performance. Here are some example with an i5-6500 and Hyper 212 as well.

I have not yet decided, and with all the political mumbojumbo here in the UK, some prices has surprisingly gone somewhat up since my post, rather than down post the 1060 launch.

Some alternatives as per today.
KFA2 GTX 950 1114/1304 at £109.99
Gigabyte GTX 4GB WF (which I think is the same as bought for £153 December last year, now at £161.99). If to SLI guess it is a point to have the same memory and clockspeed.
A selection of GTX 970 at £199.99
And GTX 1060 £229

Is the 1060 "base" better than an OC 970?

Are there any near future game titles that are likely to be unplayable on a GTX950? (1080p monitor)

The GTX960 I originally had in mind for future SLI, would be less than £30 cheaper, and the 970 should be a lot better. 1060 would be more, if you can get hold of one, and I need it for my sons birthday next week. Hopefully it'll last for a few years...
