What causes my microphone buzz?

So my headset microphone has started to emit a buzzing sound as of late, the buzzing doesn't happen when the microphone is on mute and continues happening when the microphone is removed from the headset. The noise is also reduced when i touch metal, however it hasnt always buzzed only come on recently. Is this a grounding issue or could it be something else?

Is it still there if you disconnect the entire headset?

It could be a short somewhere or it could be a bad connection. You may check and make sure that it is plugged in all the way. But if it is a short you would probably just need to replace it.
