Is an h81 board enough for an i5 4690 or should i go for something more expensive like h87 or h97? I do not plan to overclock.

Solution
I would go for the H97 chipset as any of them will have all of the features you would need and they also have a great build quality. I would stay away from the H81 chipset as it is cheap and lacks features.

I would also not get the 4690 if you don't want to overclock. The 4440, 4460, 4570, and 4590 are all far greater values. The 4690 is $50 more than the 4440 and $30 more than the 4590.
