What computer for 3D animation?

I'm studying 3D animation and want to buy a new computer. Can anyone advise me on which system to buy on a $1000-$1700 budget range?

If you can budget up to $1700, then you can build a system with a Core i7 that would be the best for 3D animation.

Anything with an I7 and 6GB+ of ram should do well.
