What connections needed for a touchscreen monitor?

I find myself in a strange place after building PCs for decades. I have been asked to build a machine with a touchscreen for the first time.

I am presuming that the video feed to a touchscreen is going to be through DVI, HDMI or DP depending upon make and model. However, as the monitor is acting like a pointing device, does it have a separate USB connection for the touch capabilities? If not, how is the touch data transferred?

Solution
It has got to require a USB connection or a serial port connection, It will be USB due to the age of serial connection. Also at the school I work at we have several Smartboards which are a touch screen board that work in conjunction with a projector and laptop. This requires a USB connection to enable the touch screen capabilities.

Have a look at this one, not necessarily the best to buy but gives you an idea of the connections etc.

Solution

Smartboards are great as I used to have them in my school.

Some of them have a separate USB for touch capabilities; I have seen monitors without them but I'm not completely sure how it works other than it may feed to a SATA cable or something lol.

There aren't all in one pc's are they. I found a few that had windows 8 installed and were an all in one pc and touch screen. Has to have some sort of data port to be able to communicate with the pc, unless you can send it over HDMI, or a wireless touch screen. That would be cool!
