What could be causing my GPU to do this?

About a year ago I could run BF3 on high at 60 frames a second quiet as a mouse. Then I switched to using a 32 inch TV as my monitor from a 22 inch computer monitor. During that time when I played any games that have decent graphics my GPU would get very loud and I'm now using my tiny 22 inch screen and it's still making the loud noises. I went to play LOTRO and even when I have the settings at their minimum my GPU freaks out. I have a Nvidia 550ti. I should also mention that I clean every part of my rig and make sure it's free of dust every 3 months.

It sounds more like a high pitched moaning sound coming from an animal. It will start then stop.

It would be much easier to record the sound and post it to youtube, but from what I can gather it could be coil whine that you havent noticed before, or the fan bearings are going and you're starting to hear the noise which surely will get progressively worse over time.

It sounds exactly like a vacuum!!! Finally someone knows what I'm talking about. Once I find the battery for my camera I'll record the sound. I moved recently and everything is in boxes!

No, it's more like the whine a vacuum gives off. At least my vacuum, I'll have to record that too :lol:

Its either extreme coil whine or the fan/fans are going to crap out soon, in either condition a new GPU would be in order.

I also forgot to mention I've gotten like 2 or 3 blue screens and my GFX driver "crashed and recovered" at least 3.

Have you tried any monitoring software to monitor your GPU temps?

I Really Suggest Getting A New GPU What Are Your Current Specs

Yes, I've tried GPU monitoring software for BF3 on medium I run about 75 Celsius. Also here are my specs. http://imgur.com/BOIFBtk

My motherboard is a Pegatron 2a86. It's a hp pavilion elite h80t (I think) I bought a pre built computer at the time because I was not into building rigs like I am now. The only non stock parts is the GPU but I'm considering scrapping everything and just building a new rig.

Its a pre-built, I wouldnt say "HP is crap" because they might use a crap mobo in a prebuilt system. Building a new rig might be a good idea it will however be a bit costly obviously. Though with your current display resolution picking up even a 750Ti will hold you over quite well until you get up to 1080p.
