What CPU do you recommend?

Hi,

Until now I had a rather mid-range PC which could run most games on medium performance and I have enough money to upgrade.

I want to buy a Gigabyte GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 256bit, and I'm asking about the CPU. Because I don't really think my AMD FX-6100 will be enough for this card. What do you think? If not, which would be the best choice (and also price-conscious choice)?

see what your board supports, I would wait on a cpu upgrade. If you really want put a 6300 or 8300 in there for amd, but most programs only worry about processor speed. Maybe with windows 10 you will see more multiprocessor based programming, but doubtful since its been years already and most games at best use 2-4 cores. your running 6, which with a 970 might come close to bottlenecking your cpu maybe.

Get a nice cooler look at overclocking upgrade the gpu and you should be good for a year or so and figure out where to go from there. Like new mobo cpu ram or wait longer... I think overclock would be good for the cheap route get a nice case with good airflow fans etc. Make sure you have a good psu. The newest of the new is barely going to make a difference to you after a video card upgrade.

Few years back I switched from a core 2 quad 8200s to a amd 8120 so 4 core to 8, upgraded from a g460gtx 768mb to a 680gtx 4gb. There was minimal difference in most the things I played. I slappe din a nice cooler crancked up to 4ghz from 3.1 and still ahven;t found much I can say I have problems with on 1080p gaming.
