What CPU for GTX 1070?

Solution

At 1080p? If so then you should be fine.

If you are trying to game at 4k or 2k you may have trouble, as your older processor might limit the ability of your 1070 at higher resolutions.

At 1080p you will be fine, though.
The missing piece of information is what you want to do with your computer.

I have an i5-3470 paired with a GTX 1070 and I am able to run modern games at 1080p at 90+ fps with settings on Very High or equivalents. (Rise of the Tomb Raider, Titanfall 2, Fallout 4, things like that.)

If you are trying to do something other than run modern games at 1080p, you'll have to specify.

Yes an older i5 will limit the 1070s capabilities somewhat, but not to the level where a 1070 would perform like a 1060 or something... you'll still get good value out of a 1070 with an older i5.
