Your i3-6100 has 4 threads and a passmark rating of 4169 and a single thread rating of 2223.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-6100+@+3.70GHz&id=2617

If you are inclined to also upgrade your motherboard, I can recommend the i3-10100 that sells somewhere in the $120 range. I have built two pc.s for others who were very satisfied.
It is a quick processor.
It has 8 threads and a rating of 8830 / 2637

Most any lga1200 motherboard will do.
Since you already have a graphics card, the i3-10100F without integrated graphics will be cheaper.
Your current ddr4 ram will be fine.

My budget options are usually

AMD Ryzen 3600

and

MSI B450 Tomahawk
or
ASUS TUF B450

All in, for just under $300. Although questions arise on what ram you are using and can it be carried forward to this board. Your board supports DDR4, but you are gonna want 3200 or 3600 speed ram. Thats another 80 bucks or so.

This may be above your price range but I would say the AMD Ryzen 5 2600. It's currently on a deal for $147. https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processo...hild=1&keywords=amd+cpu&qid=1626895295&sr=8-5

I would have to agree that is a solid choice, and doesn't need a very expensive board to run.

Also check out the i5 10400. If you are in the USA and happen to have Microcenter nearby, there i5 10400 is 139.99 at the one by me. There i3 mentioned above is 99.99. Usually they give a price break on a board if you buy both together. But for 100 those are probably good value for now.
