What CPU should I get for gaming?

Hi, I am looking to upgrade the CPU in my gaming PC. I currently have an AMD FX 8320 with 8GB DDR3 RAM (With an MSI GTX 1060 3GB) and I am experiencing some bottle-necking. I don't have a particularly large budget and I am perfectly happy with used parts.

I can sell my current CPU, RAM and Mobo for about 150-160 pounds and I am willing to spend around 200-250 on a new CPU, RAM and Mobo. I can get a new motherboard (I looked at 1151) for about 50 and new DDR4 RAM for about 40 which leaves me with about 110-170 to spend on a CPU. What should I get?

In that price range, you may want the i3-6100 or even the G4520 (step down from the i3). for under $100 (or cheaper for you).

I can get an i5 6500 for 125 on CEX, would that be better?

Yes that would be extremely better. But I always go with new parts, which is why I recommend the above prices. I don't like second-hand, because you never know, and you could lose out on a warranty.

Cex do 12 months warranty and are extremely good with exchanges from personal experience. Plus, its a locked lga chip theyre fairly bombproof

Ah, not aware of the company, but if they have that good of a warranty, then go for it, I would too as long it's from a trusted vendor.

Get the i5-6500, H110 motherboard, 8GB (I really recommend 16GB) of RAM, and continue to use your 1060.

There have been some great deals on 16gb kits here in the uk recently, quite often going for less than £85 when an 8gb kit is 50-55

I would also recommend 16 if you can stretch to it

I'd just like to ask would I see a significant jump in performance from my FX 8320 to the i5 6500? How much would it really affect me at 1080p?

Well, it's hard to tell, but the old AMD's optimization for utilization cores wasn't the best. I want to say the 6500 should do you just fine and give you the things you need. Pair that with the GTX 1060 and you got a beast that can handle any game.
