What CPU should I get

So i'm currently running an i5 4460 paired with a GTX 970 and i'm planning to upgrade to a better CPU before I make the big jump to Skylake. Would the 4690k be the best option or is there a better Haswell i7 for gaming?

PS: If I do get the 4690k, would a Corsair H80i GT be enough to cool it at maximum overclock?

Solution

There is no better haswell i7 than the 4790k***, but to be honest i wouldnt quite go to MAXIMUM overclock with just the corsiar watercooler. Ik they can be very powerful coolers, but the 4790k can be quite hot under intensive loads, and running at maximum OC would be dangerous.
Unless you are talking about the default turbo boost then thats fine. And in my personal experience the stock i7...

Honestly I would wait another year at least, unless you really want to spend the money. The 4690k would still be great for gaming, the i7 is relatively useless for gaming as the benefits you would gain from hyperthreading is fairly non-existent. Only get the i7 if you plan to do heavy multi tasking while gaming, workstation tasks, or you want to keep the i7 for a very long time.

If you do get the 4690k the H80iGT will be fine when trying to maximize your overclocks, nothing to worry about.

Admirable
You can run up to about 1.15V Vcore on the stock heatsink, and over 1.3V on the Corsair H80i.
How fast it will go depends on the CPU. It is a lottery.
A good CPU will go up to 4.7GHz at 1.3V, and a bad one will max out at 4.1Ghz.
If you increase the voltage above 1.3V, you shorten the life of the CPU for a tiny additional performance gain.

But either way a that watercooler would be a good cooling solution.

Was thinking the same thing but do you think the 4460 would be able to play upcoming games without bottlenecking my GPU?

If I got the H100i, would that be enough to keep it at decent temps?

4460 won't bottleneck in games any time soon.

Alright thanks! And one last question, would an H80i GT fit in a Cooler Master K350?

the h100i would be a very very good solution, just make sure youve got some good fans to dissipate the radiator heat
