I currently have a GTX 1060 6GB graphics card, which is currently really badly bottlenecking my i3 6100 processor. I am running 8GB of RAM but am willing to upgrade to 16GB. What processor would fit my computer for performance and have limited bottleneck. My budget for my processor is £250.

Your GPU is not bottlenecking your CPU, more like the other way around, as modern titles really don't like dual cores. They are even starting to not do super will, with quad cores. This would be a massive improvement, in handling said titles. I would not dump that money into a dead platform.

First of all:

PSU model?
Ram specs?
Mothetboard specs?

At the moment I would completely change platform to amd as it is quite future proof, cheaper and better in price per performence compared to intel:

Ryzen 5 2600 (100-120£, there might be even a sale under 100£)

For RAM higher speeds are really usefull when using AMD. Atleast ~3000mhz is recommended (it will also work with lower speeds, but the slower the more fps loss you will get)
So if you have atleast 2933mhz ram, I would look for the exact same stick. If not, the 2x8gb g.skill aegis kit is the way to go. (50-70£)

And a b450 motherboard. There are plenty for under 70£. I have an AsRock B450M Pro 4 and I'm very pleased with it. It has all headers you'll need, even some rgb headers for some fancy upgrading. I'm really enjoing it.

Hope I helped you :)

I asked about your current PC specs... Seeing that you want to change almost everything, it'd be helpful if you posted your current PSU model.

Just noticed... both accounts are yours?

EDIT: Just ignore this please... a bit of autism kicked in from my part, see the message below @geckovic02

i7 6700/6700k or 7700/7700k is best you can get for 100/200 series boards but these processors can be pricey second hand or new. Can get new Ryzen build, cpu, mobo + ram for the price of a new 7700k.

Sorry for the confusion to both @geckovic02 and @boju .... I'm a bit dizzy I guess.
Just read part of the answer and thought he was the same guy posting what he wants to upgrade to.

Believe it or not... this is what I thought =)).
