Chapter III, trying to get the Uthgart off, Rolgan, from Murder.. I must
have missed some evidence along the way, I know his drink must have been
spiked, but could find no way to prove it.. I know I had previously bought a
drink before taking on the case and had ended up temporarily brain damaged!
The guys dead now, but just wondered what I missed..

Good question. I always figured something like this had happened, but I
spoke to everyone involved in the trial and no one mentioned it.

I believe that bit of evidence is the one you have to heal the injured
witness to learn about.

Which witness is that?

No need to worry about that, threaten someone a few times and you will get a
shift towards evil. Very handy if you want to remain neutral.

How do you go about threatening someone? I assume you don't mean the
emote/threaten option from the radial menu? Or in dialogue with someone? I
haven't seen that many (appropriate) threatening options when talking to
main/useful npcs, and I don't remember any when talking to "background"
npcs. I have always been put off from RPing a neutral or evil character as
most plots have an inherent shift to good. I might give it a go if there is
an appropriate way of retaining alignment.

ps only played the oc so far.

If you present the evidence in the right order, and don't wander off
on some of the meaningless testimony.

It has been a while since I last played NWN but there in chapter 3, I think,
with the farmers daughter you can use threats during dialogue. There are a
few others but I can't remember where they were. Another way to get some
evil points is to kill of some NPCs, eg in chapter 1 in the core, there are
some NPCs moaning about not being able to get back to the Beggars Nest.
Each time you kill one you get a few points shift towards evil.

Going back the other way is not quite as easy but when finishing a quest
don't accept payment but choose the "give it to charity" type option will
get you 5-10 points shift to good. I can't remember the exact amount,
haven't played for about 6 months.

He he, my first char accidentally got an evil shift on that one. I
mistook the dialog choice for a genuinely intended warning rather than
a threat!

One is to threaten Milly the cleaner: it's something like "perhaps
you'd like to try cleaning without hands?" My first char was more or
less forced to do this, having failed to persuade her. I justified it
in character terms as a bluff for the greater good of the whole city
(my char was CG).

Less. You could always have fought your way in through the front door.

Sent prematurely before, sorry. I'll cancel my other reply to this as
soon as it arrives.

*twitch* I take it you view Chaotic as meaning "less good" than Lawful?
From my perspective--in which no Good alignment is "more good" than
any other--the entire concept of "for the greater good of the whole
city" is about as Lawful as it gets, and a Chaotic Good character would
be the one protesting, "No, the ends don't justify the means."

Agreed.

I'm not sure about that. I don't necessarily disagree that a lawful
character would feel that way, but it seems like a chaotic character
would be willing to bend the rules a little and try some coercion.

Not in the slightest. But I /do/ view it as implying an unconstrained
willingness to ride roughshod over society's norms and regulations in
order to achieve a greater good. I think "unconstrained" is the
operative word.

Your point is well made: I'll think on it. I don't really want to start
yet another alignment debate because IME they generate more heat than
light.

Thanks for a thought-provoking post!

Yeah, that happened to me a few times in various places.
