what do i do when my pc won,t let me put my pass word in to start,for windows 7.

I was on my desk top computer one night and the next morning I couldn't sign on. It won't allow me to put my pass word in. A message comes up "profile can't be found" or something to that effect.
What do I need to do to get on my PC?
