Hi, I'm planning to get a cable mod full cable kit for a Corsair RMx PSU for the build I'm planning but the graphics card I want requires 1x 8 pin and 1x 6 pin PCI-E cable. But the cable mod kit comes with a double 6+2 pin cable. I would use one of the 6+2 pins but what do I do with the extra 2 pins on the second 6+2 pins?

Solution
The two pin section is connected but can be attached to the GPU separately, hence why it's referred to as a 6+2-pin connector.

Is there anything you can do with them other than just let them hang there? Cut them off safely?

You could just fold then back and tape them to the cable higher up. Thy're just ground wires. They activate the center 12V. wire which actually isn't used in 6 pin setup. Nothing bad will happen if you cut them off. The 6 pin is added 75W for GPU, 8 pin is added 150W for GPU. You might want it later is all.

Would they be able to be detached but not cut off?

The pins can be taken out of the plastic plug and then taped back to the other wires. I would get some old plugs to practice on. The pins slide in from the top, and are held in by a tab that sticks up on one side of the pin so they don't back out when you plug it in. If you can slide something thin llike a paper clip in from the open end and push the tab down and then pull the wire out. It helps to hold the terminal in a clamp of some kind. Then you can push the wire in while pressing the tab, Then pull the wire out easily. Otherwise it takes 3 hands. To put them back in you need to pull the tabs abck up a little so they hook into place. If you break one off you've ruined it.

Thanks but I think I'll just leave them just in case
