sneakerdoddle :
i have a dell dimension 8200 1.8 ghz.i want to upgrade to a 2.8ghz.when i install the 2.8 it reads 2.09,can anybody help
You could try updating the system's BIOS to the latest version from the manufacturers website here:
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8200&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Also, make sure the memory is running at the correct speed, and that the system can handle the voltages required by the new processor.
Another thing to note is that some 2.8GHz processors use hyperthreading, your systems mainboard may not be able to handle.
The first thing I would do is to flash to the latest BIOS.
