I want to connect my two tower polk audio speakers and one or two polk subwoofers to my pc. what do i need to make this happen?

I use a low/mid-priced ($250) Yamaha receiver to run 7.1 surround sound from an optical (Toslink) out of my motherboard into the sound system that connects to the receiver. It sounds way better than any little computer speakers or even my old Klipsch 5.1 computer set did.

Ok i already have a receiver. so i need to buy a pci card that has an optical connection on it? an hdmi will work also? tjx

You'd be much better served by using an hdmi connection. The 7.1 via optical is kinda a cheat (due to limited bandwidth of optical). To get true, lossless 7.1, hdmi is a must.

yes agreed. that is what i have in my movie room. yamaha 7.1. well i will give it a try with optical since my mobo has an optical connection. thx
