Question What do I need to do to upgrade the graphics card from a HP Z400 Workstation?

I am looking at a GeForce GTX 980 to upgrade from the Quadro FX 3800. While looking I have noticed that the
Quadro 3800 has a 1 x 6 pin connector while the GTX 980 has a 2 x 6 pin connector. So I was wondering, Will I just be able to take the 3800 out and put the 980 in? Will I need a connector of some sort?

Current PC I own: HP Z400 Workstation

All/Any help would be appreciated!

Look at the nameplate on your PSU. Check the +12VB rating for total wattage. If it looks like this (456W)*, you may get by with it running a GTX 980 that only requires 2 x 6-pin connectors, and your PSU has them. (My MSI GTX 980 requires 2 x 8-pin and would never last long on that PSU)

Ideally, you'd want to replace the PSU, but my experience with HP workstations indicated that they use proprietary connections and mounting hole pattern.
Are you dead set on a GTX 980? The PSU would handle a RX 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB, both of which have equal performance to the older GTX 980.

* check near the bottom of the label. "max combined power on +12VB"
