Hi,

I am only interested in playing 4k footage no game playing going on here.

I have an i5-3570K @ 3.4GHz (not overclocked now)
8GB RAM
on board gfx

I can play 4k footage from my Galaxy s7 phone, CPU usage jumps up to around 30-40% then drops and stays below 10%
Format : AVC
Bit rate : 48.0 Mb/s
Width : 3 840 pixels
Height : 2 160 pixels
Frame rate : 30.000 FPS

But from my Go Pro 6 it is choppy and CPU usage flies up to max and stays there
Format : HEVC
Bit rate : 81.5 Mb/s
Width : 3 840 pixels
Height : 2 160 pixels
Frame rate : 50.000 FPS

  1. Can I upgrade my hardware to play the go pro footage smoothly? If so what do I need to upgrade? Can I just put in a discrete GPU?
  2. Will I need a HDMI 2.0 cable?
I have an LG 55UK6340PTF TV it says
· Resolution 3840 x 2160

· Field Refresh Rate (Hz) 100Hz

· HDR10 - High Dynamic Range¹ Yes

· HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma)² Yes

· Colour Bit Depth 10-bit

· HDR Effect Yes

I am assuming my TV does support 50fps? I have been reading about refresh rates vs fps but cant seem to find any definite info.

thanks

Get the GT 1030.

I'm using the same gpu and i'm able to run 4K 60 fps videos.

That's what this gpu is meant for.

To build a HTPC.

You'll need HDMI 2.0 or display port to get the 4K 60 output.

Your TV supports 100 Hz which is insane but you must have a GPU that is capable to display 4K 100.
