Question What do I need to upgrade?

Hi there,

just installed a new RTX 3060 and i don't see much of an improvement in performance from my 1060. Thinking it's maybe the older motherboard/cpu and I did experience some lag and crashing when in the BIOS so could that be the issue?
I've clean reinstalled drivers, CPU/Motherboard/RAM health seem good. Thanks for any help.

i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz
RTX 3060 12gb
32gb DDR3
ASUS H97M-E board
2TB ssd

You need to upgrade the CPU, motherboard, and RAM, at least. The i7-4790 is considered basically lower end at this point. To put it in perspective, the i3-12300 beats the i7-6700 by a healthy margin, and the i7-6700 already beats the i7-4790

Thanks for taking time to help.

Had a look at performance and seems 12400 isnt that much different from 12600 for what I need and def a few leagues above what i've currently got so going with that.
Also gonna get the motherboard and cooler/ram you suggested managed to save some money for a new PSU and Case.
