What do the lights on an ethernet port mean?

Can you help me? I am trying to figure out what the lights on my Dell ethernet adaptor port mean.

I believe the Green light shows that the NIC is powered on (or there is an active connection through the LAN cable), and the flashing orange/yellow means there is data passing through the connection.
