If you do wish to go for hyperthreading, buy a Xeon instead of an i7. Xeons are supposed to be the server line of CPUs, but run in desktop boards just fine. They lack the integrated graphics chip, but you will want to be using a separate graphics card anyway, and the Xeon uses the freed space of the nonexistent graphics for more cache, so it performs better, Also, Xeons are available in higher clock speeds than i7.
