I've been thinking about buying a new pc for 2K / 4K gaming and these are the components I've come up with:

Processor: i5 9600K
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3i
Motherboard: ASUS Prime H370-A
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2x8GB 2666MHz CL16
GPU: ASUS ROG STRiX RTX2070
SSD: WD 500GB
HDD: WD Black 1TB (recycled from old build)
PSU: Corsair VS650 80 Plus (or may even recycle older 750W Chieftec PSU)

What do you guys think?

Solution
I'd recommend to upgrade GPU first and wait for Ryzens 3rd gen. 2K or 4K shouldn't be unplayable during these 3+ months of waiting.
9600K is a great CPu, but only 6cores/6threads.
If You can get similar CPU from AMD, for example, with 8 cores and 16 threads for the same price and with the same performance, it's worth to wait.

If You plan to overclock CPU:
  • get Z board, as suggested above.
  • get top Air cooling or some AIO cooling

I would go for cooling like Be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 or Noctua dh-15 (about 100$).

If You don't plan to overclock (this is kinda waste on this CPU), i'd buy something mid-range, like Scythe Mugen 5 / Dark Rock 4 (about 50$)

P.S. If You plan to go 4K, You might consider moving Your budget from CPU towards better GPU.

Ryzen 2600/2600x will give You savings on CPU and motherboard, so You can go for RTX 2080. This setup will perform better in 2K/4K, but worse in 1080p res.

However, this will save You only a few $, not enough to cover price gap between 2070 and 2080. And if You plan to overclock, 9600K has better potential and is overall better for gaming.

Yeah I agree, I would definitely get a much better cooler. The Hyper TX3 is low end and outdated. You're better off getting one of the aforementioned coolers, especially anything from Noctua / Phanteks / Cryorig.

One more thing... To be honest, if You buy additional 8 GB of RAM and new GPU like 2070 / 2080 / 1080ti , You will be perfectly fine in 2K/4K. You really don't need to buy a new PC. In 2K or 4K performance increase just from changing CPU will be minimal. It's not worth it.

It's better to invest some money in good cooling, overclock Your current CPU and enjoy games in 2/4 K with Your new GPU and additional RAM. Maybe try to upgrade GPU only first and see the result?

I'm on i7 2nd gen and trust me - it's just fine in 2K.

Also, You can wait with CPU and see what AMD will have to offer in 2019 - 3rd generation of Ryzens is on the way.

I've been also thinking about trying at first with only a new GPU and RAM but the whole PC upgrade was long time coming. Only thing is, I'm not sure if my mobo can run higher speed RAM modules as the higher speeds are listed as O.C. in its specifications. Also, thank you very much, your reccomendations and answers are very helpful.

You would probably better with the Ryzen 7, the price shouldn't be much different and you get 8 cores. Motherboard with Wifi and also better SSD.

Sadly I can't use the PartPicker as I live in Serbia and the stores don't ship to my country and who knows how expensive the shipping itself would be.

I'll most probably try the GPU first approach although the upgrade was a long time coming. Thank you very much for your answers guys.
