I just bought a broken PS4 on eBay. This is the description the seller wrote in the details:
"Ps4 500 gb Hard drive goes to update screen when powered on and connected to ethernet. When powered on without internet is asked for ide disk or internet connecton
Looks like it was formerly a store display I have no idea how to get it to do anything so it's for sale. Disc drive sounds like it works and it powers on and off fine. If you can figure out how to get it past update should be fine."
The grammar isn't so great so it's a little hard to understand, but doesn't it seem like the system just needs to be wiped and OS reinstalled? Or given a new HDD entirely? Both options seem pretty easy/cheap.
Seller claims warranty seal is still intact, which doesn't really matter as it is out of warranty, but I like to know whether or not somebody has opened it up to fiddle around with the hardware. Worst case I send it in to Sony for $150 repair and it's still cheaper than buying new.
Any thoughts on what's wrong with it?
