Hi all,

I'm interest in your thoughts about my first attempt at building a pc and the components I've selected. will start build next month or so.

Do the component go together well?
Any bottlenecks?
Better options?
is it overkill here and missed something there?
Could I save money here and spent it there?
Could I just save money? :p
Your opinions where I can't decide what's best option !

Seriously any and all advise will be gratefully received.

I have to say getting my head around all the different sockets, brands, etc.. hasn't been easy (getting old) so I wont be offended if you point out any silly mistakes.

i'll be using the pc for watching movies through monitor/projector and gaming.

Current Games: Dishonoured, Fallout Vegas, Just Cause 2, Hitman AB, Simcity, Assassins Creed 3, Borderlands 2, Saints Row 3, Crysis (All) and anything coming that takes my fancy :).

Case:
Corsair Graphite 600TM Midi Tower Mesh Windowed Case - Black
with 2x 200mm Corsair fans and a black 120m fan at the back.

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)

Motherboard: Don't need the wifi, other options?
Asus P8Z77-V Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3

Graphics Card: Run in SLI config sometime in future:
Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II OC Gamer 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express

Read this and consider getting an 8 core AMD processor because it's better suited for next-gen: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-future-proofing-your-pc-for-next-gen

Overclock Schmoverclock. It won't be as important in the next generation. Save on the water cooler and put that toward a better GPU or better monitor.

Overclock won't be as important because...
With the release of the PS4 and Xbox One, for the first time, the consoles and the PC are using the same processor instruction set. This means that there will no longer be issues with porting games to PCs. And console games will be using slower-clocked 8 core processors. I don't know exactly how that affects performance of intel's 4 core procs on next gen games. I do think that on average, cross platform games will become much more demanding of a given CPU's ability to do multithreaded processing, and less demanding on given clock speeds. That means that the return on investment in higher end graphics cards and >4 core processors will be greater, now that more games will give you opportunity to flex that muscle.

The GTX 760 doesn't perform quite as well as the 670, but it's closer to it in performance than the even the 660 Ti. It also only costs $250.

FWIW, If I were building a system right now, I would be scheming a way to play on 2560x1440, because the higher resolution is much cooler than playing everything on ultra.

I'm trying to keep it around £1100 - £1200 English pounds. If I can build something as good for less then happy days :)

thanks for the reply, I will definitely look at the 760,
I also read that piece and my thoughts were....
have had my current pc for 4/5 years :
AMD Phenom x4 9850 Black Edition 2.5mhz
Mobo Asus M3N72-D
Memory Corsair DDR2 4gb 400mhz
GPU Nvida Geforce 9600 gso (768mb) x2 sli

I'm building this pc because..... I want a better pc of course, but I'm looking at it as a project (learning curve) If all goes well :) I would be quite happy to build another next year and then I could go down the multi*multi core route. I didn't think about higher res to be honest but again I think once i'm comfortable building a pc I will likely do it again and then go with a high end spec and future proof as much a one can.

thank you for all your suggestions it does give me something to think about this time round and next.
