What do you think of this system?

I'm building a system for 2D/3D modeling and video editing and I was just wondering if I could get some opinions or suggestions on any changes or improvements you guys think should be made.

Here is what I have chosen so far...

Intel Core i7-2600K cpu
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133

GPU is pending. Suggestions welcome.

If you have the budget I would go for a gtx 580 over any other card for what you are doing, go with a good 750 watt or so power supply like a seasonic or corsair, If your going to do air cooling i would get a bigger case but if you go watercooling you can go with a smaller case. Hard drives are really up to you as they dont matter that much unless you get a ssd. 16gb of ram was overkill even for what you are doing.

That is a good start. I would skip the overclocking memory modules and just go with DDR3-1600 1.5v CL8. At those speeds you wouldn't see a difference. Tweaking the timings to CL7 would be a welcome upgrade if you wanted to OC..

My budget for the GPU is about $800 so I can go with duel gaming GPU's or a single slot professional GPU and stick another one in at some point if I have the clearance. I'm not sure which would be better for me needs.

The EVGA GTX 580 is $410 after rebate. That may very well be all you need, but leaves the option open to a second in SLI later if needed. Not sure a Quadro or FirePro would serve you better for a larger cost...

imo a 6990 is a great card, i still prefer the gtx 580 though for the price and in sli it will do well

Yeah as i said if you go with a nice gtx 580 you will love it and it will do what you want it to do
