My question is

I have windows xp upon upgrading my virus protection software norton 360 it prompt me to set up a network connection as well as a mobile

Not sure if this is automatic or not

The system ran itself and there we go we now have a LAN2 connection which I have never seen before and concerns me....

Only have one computer in the home not sure what this means....

No LAN1 connection visible ( shouldn't that be the main connection?) what does this mean??

Not technically inclined

Help

Pure guess based on the description but it sounds like some sort of software based virtual connection that filters the data passing through it to ensure you have protection. Could be wrong and is a total guess!

Sometimes when network adapters are uninstalled and re-installed, the connection gets named differently. I've seen computers that are on Local Area Connection 8. Nothing to worry about. Have you looked at the properties of it? It should just be linking to the setup of your network card.
