What does AWG mean? And is 20 AWG good for gaming?

I have recently ordered a 6 PIN PCIE cable for my new graphics card and my power supply did not come with one. The reviews say that these things usually can catch fire but how? Also is 20 AWG good for gaming?

This is what AWG means

Basically it is a measure of how thick a power cable is. The thicker it is, the less resistance there is in the current, and less heat build up in the cable.
If a cable is too thin, extended usage can result in too much heat built up, causing the cable to burn up.

20AWG is fine.
