What does Display driver stopped responding mean

It says Diplay driver stopped responding and has recovered??
Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recvered??
My qeustion is what does that mean & why does my screen go black??
don't know much about computers but this is the first time this has ever happened!!

I dont exactly no what it means other than you should update your graphics card drivers
then your screen wont go black
