What does happen to my hard disk?

Hello,
i've got an old netbook. the problem start when i turn on my netbook, it won't turn on, then it show "A disk read error occurred, press Ctlr+Alt+Del to restart"
does my hard disk broke or something happen to it? if it is broke, can i repair it?

Disk read error most likely means your HDD is dead or in such a state that the system cannot use it.
Either way you'll need to fit a new one then ou can connect the old one to a pc and see about getting any data from it although there's a good chance you will not be able to.
