I recently purchased a cheap unbranded made in China HDMI to USB capture card. There’s no brand name written anywhere on it or on the box.
Upon giving output of my Windows 10 PC HDMI-out from NVidia card to it, I am amazed to find that the NVidia Control Panel confirms that both GPU & display are HDCP compliant.
So this cheap unbranded HDMI to USB card is in fact HDCP compliant?
I gave output of my satellite TV Set top box (commonly called as STB in my country) and it was able to capture the FHD live contents as played by STB. I thought STB must be HDCP?
This raises a few queries in my mind..
-Does it mean that HDCP compliant capture card can in fact capture HDCP content?
-Isn’t this a piracy concern. How come HDCP license can be awarded to capture card manufacturer? Even known brands like Elgato clearly state that their card will not work directly with HDCP content.
-Could it be that STB is not HDCP at all?
Thanks.
